MSC Cruises - Magnifica - August 19, 2024 - We loved it!!
This is our first time on MSC Cruises. It is like stepping back in time and being able to enjoy a cruise. Please take no offense in some of my comments - I am saying what I have heard people have complained about as well as my own observations. I was on the Jubilee last month and I loved the ship but it was too many people and you heard many, many complaints. The kids were out of control. Knocking on doors and running off-running down stairs - running down halls - I was so afraid of one of the elderly passengers getting knocked over and breaking a hip - and this is no exaggeration. MSC Magnifica- Polite people!! Polite kids!! Is it because there are less Americans? I hate to admit it - but I think so. (I taught 4th, 5th, 6th grade for 20 years)The majority of the passengers were from Europeans and South Americans. They should be very proud of their children and their manners!! The ship is fully booked but it does not feel like it. The elevators are easy to get on and off of. People let you on and off the elevators the proper way. I heard more people saying “excuse me, pardon me, and thank you” than I have in a long time. THE STAFF!!! WOW!!! They work hard - but do not seem to be “run into the ground” like I have seen on Carnival and RCL. They are smiling - stop and talk to you - tell you about their home and you must go see it and sites that can not be missed. Our cabin steward was in and out - had a moment here and there to talk. My last few cruises, I never saw our stewards - they had too many passengers to clean up after. The food has been good! Dinner in the main dining room last night was great - everyone at our table loved what they ordered: the salads were gorgeous- fresh!! Greek and Caesar. The entrees were plated beautifully- salmon, chicken, New York Strip…and then dessert!! Don’t miss out on the Apple Crumble. Can not forget the PIZZA!!! Yum!!! We will do dinner in the Buffett tonight - hoping for 5 . We loved CocoCay!! The water is soooo blue!!! It is gorgeous!! (No matter how much I travel, I seem to forget how blue the ocean is.) People could spread out!! Several beaches to hang out on - one beach with a bar was pretty deserted- we had chairs and an umbrella and just chilled. Wear water shoes - it is very rocky. We did not go to the other beaches but I heard no complaints from people we were talking to on the tram and getting back on the ship. I love the fact that your drink package can be used on the island!! The others need to do the same. Make sure to eat before you leave the ship. There was no harassment to come in and go shopping. Very Nice!! For kids: we have been on a variety of ships that were fun for the kids and some that were boring - it just depends on who is on the ship at that time. It seemed like most kids were hanging out with family - playing foosball, ping pong, swimming, and eating cone after cone of ice cream!! Ice cream is a hit. The drinks we have had, taste good, made correctly, no complaints on too little or too much alcohol. My husband’s only complaint was about the gym - lots of equipment not working - and needs to have more free weights - a very small space for a lot of people wanting to work out. I was glad I slept in so someone could have my spot on a treadmill.
